What ground cover or low shrub would look good under an `ohi`a. I am in an inland mesic zone.

If anyone is interested, Bishop Museum offers a monthly native plant give-away through the Grow Aloha program! Go to the GM website to reserve a plant for pick up on Wednesday-6/18.

Aloha everyone!
I just discovered the website of the AAA–Aloha Arborist Association.
They have a useful little flyer about pruning trees and another for shrubs. -

Aloha kākou,
The DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife has a great RESOURCE page that includes this very cool tool: Hawaiʻi Tree Canopy Viewer. It might be a useful tool in considering where the development of microforests should be prioritized. - Load More Posts

Aloha! I would suggest palapalai and ‘uki’uki (make sure to get the one that berries!). These do well in shade.
