Check out the mai’a, ko, and kalo thriving under the ‘ulu at the Hui Malama O Ke Kai demo garden. Behind the kalo is mamaki and in forefont is pa’u o hiaka. I’ll continue to post pics of this site as the agroforestry demo garden focused on native and canoe plants develops. Stay tuned;-).

If anyone is interested, Bishop Museum offers a monthly native plant give-away through the Grow Aloha program! Go to the GM website to reserve a plant for pick up on Wednesday-6/18.

Bishop Museum, Grow Aloha!

Grow Aloha is a hui of plant adoption partners working together to restore Hawaiian plants and our relationships with them in urban areas. Bishop Museum is a proud partner and plant adoption site on Oʻahu. In 2025, every third Wednesday of the month, drop by Bishop Museum at the Kaiwiʻula Night Market from 4:30 – 6 p.m. to adopt native plants for free.

Hello! We purchased a home last year and still need to do some landscaping. My wish list for this house is a long list of plants that are low key, provide privacy, and at least one plant with fragrant flowers. Could only post two pictures for now.
